Challenge
The world's largest cruise line operator, Royal Caribbean International (RCI) knew they wanted to embed human-centered problem-solving and Design Thinking into their organization. The goal was to equip staff to think differently about how to approach complex business challenges and create innovative solutions.
RCI's Director of Learning & Development (L&D) was looking for a training and support partner to come alongside his team to develop and deliver Design Thinking-driven innovation training for RCI staff around the world.
Approach
The reshift team and RCI co-created a 4-day "Foundations of Design Thinking" course along with customized materials and a learning resource website. The course included application of design thinking to a set of real internal business challenges.
The combined project team also trained a select team of trainers to deliver the RCI-exclusive Design Thinking intensive across business units around the world.
Outcome
This customized approach helped participants apply Design Thinking effectively to existing business problems.
It also exposed a broader swath of staff to the Design Thinking mindset and toolkit, and generated real, viable solution concepts for the business.
By the end of 2019, the RCI L&D Team had trained teams in Miami, Florida, and the Philippines.
